Need for Cruelty Free Products

Why are cruelty free products now a need ?
The answer to this question goes back to 1938 when the United States Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act was passed to ensure that the cosmetic products were safe to use. Enter, animal testing.
Since then till early 2000s animals have been prey to innumerable toxicity tests by various manufacturers. Be it skin and irritation tests conducted by costemic companies or repeated force-feeding conducted by other manufacturers, they have adverse effects on the animals being tested upon. The effect can be as drastic as death and these testings have come to be known as mere acts of cruelty. There were many arguments raised questioning the rationale behind animal testing as different species react differently to the stimulus (in this case, the products)hence it makes no sense in testing the products made for humans on animals.
The aftermath:
In the light of this issue, several laws have been passed such as The Animal Welfare Act which set the standard of care animals should receive at research facilities and has excluded majority of the animals farm the list of the ones that can be used for research and governments across the globe have suggested alternative methods of testing and also banned animal testing lately.
